Pitru dosha pooja
Pitru dosha pooja is performed where the karmas owed to the pitrus were not done, were left half done, or where a death in the line went unmarked. The purohit performs the tarpanam, the danam and the homam that settle it, at your home in Hyderabad or at a teertham, after looking at what is actually missing in your family.
Families come to us with this for many reasons: a father who died abroad and whose karmas were never done, a line with no son, an elder whose tithi nobody now remembers. Often a jatakam has been read and a dosham named. Before we prescribe anything we ask what was and was not done, because the remedy is not the same in each case, and a pooja that does not answer what was actually left undone is only a burden on the family.
Where the karmas were genuinely left undone, the answer is usually the Narayana bali with the pitru tarpanam, and we say so. Where the tithi is simply forgotten, the Mahalaya paksham tarpanam covers it and nothing more is needed. We would rather tell you that than put you to a homam you do not need.

How do we know if there is a pitru dosham?
Usually a jatakam has been read. Bring us what you were told, along with what your family did or did not do at the time; we will tell you which of the two is actually at issue.
Where is it performed?
At home for most of it. Some families prefer a teertham — Kashi, Rameswaram, Gaya — and where that is right for your case we will say so plainly.
Does it have to be the son?
Not always. Where there is no son, the sutra allows others of the line, and in some cases the karma is done by a purohit in the name of the family. We will tell you what yours allows.
