From the hour of death to the first abdikam, each karma falls on its own day. This is the order of them. You need not hold the count; we hold it for you.
The karmas, day by day
- Day 1 Dahana samskaram దహన సంస్కారాలు The first-day karma, performed at your home and then at the ghat. The purohit, the samagri, the antima yatra vehicle and the katta are arranged in the one call, at any hour. Read more →
- Day 3 or 5 Chinna dinam చిన్న దినం The third or fifth day karma, when the family returns to the ghat to gather the asthi and make the first offerings. The purohit and the samagri come with us. Read more →
- Days 1 to 10 Nitya karmalu నిత్య కర్మలు The daily pindam and jalam offered at home from the first day to the tenth. We set it up, show the karta once, and come daily if the family would rather we did. Read more →
- Day 10 Dasa dina karma దశదిన కర్మ The largest karma of the ten days, when the relatives gather. The ten pindas are offered, the karta takes kshouram, the family bathes and the house is cleansed. Venue, purohits and meal planned with you. Read more →
- Day 12 or 13 Sapindi karma సపిండీ కర్మ The karma that joins the one who has gone to the pitrus, ending the days of ashaucham. Performed with the shanti poojas on the twelfth or thirteenth day. Read more →
- After the tenth day Shanti poojalu శాంతి పూజలు The poojas that cleanse the house and settle the family once the tenth-day and sapindi karmas are done, so that the household may return to its ordinary worship. Read more →
- Day 12 or 13, with the shanti rites Udaka shanti ఉదక శాంతి The kalasam of mantra-charged water sprinkled through the house to cleanse it. Kept after the funeral karmas, and also before a gruhapravesham or a wedding. Read more →
