Shanti poojalu
Shanti poojalu are performed after the tenth day, usually with the sapindi karma, to cleanse the house and settle the family after the days of ashaucham. The punyahavachanam, the udaka shanti and the homam are done as your family custom requires, and the household resumes its daily pooja from that day.
A house where a death has occurred is not opened back to its ordinary observances without this. The purohit performs the punyahavachanam, sprinkles the house with the shanti jalam, and where the family keeps it, a small homam follows. From that day the lamp is lit again, the pooja room is opened, and the family may attend weddings and other shubha karyams.
Families ask us how soon they may resume ordinary life, and the honest answer is that the shanti is what marks it, not a number of days. We perform it in your home anywhere in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, with everything brought by us.

When are the shanti poojas done?
After the tenth day, and most often on the same day as the sapindi karma. Where the family prefers a separate day, we fix one with the panchangam.
Is a homam always part of it?
Not always. The punyahavachanam and the udaka shanti are the core; the homam follows where your family custom keeps it. Tell us what your elders did.
Can the pooja room be opened before this?
It is kept closed through the ashaucham and opened at the shanti. If you need the deities attended to in the meantime, tell the purohit and he will guide you.
Can the family travel or attend a function before the shanti?
Through the ashaucham the family stays away from weddings, temple visits and other shubha karyams, and does not keep the daily pooja at home. Travel for work is not forbidden. Once the shanti is done all of it resumes. Where a wedding in the family falls inside those days, tell us and the purohit will advise on what your sutra allows.
