Udaka shanti
Udaka shanti is the pooja in which water is charged with the shanti mantras in a kalasam and then sprinkled through the house and over the family. It is performed with the shanti poojas after the twelfth or thirteenth day, and equally at a gruhapravesham, before a wedding, or whenever a household wants an unsettled house set right.
The kalasam is established, the deities are invoked into the water, and the purohits recite the shanti mantras over it for an hour or more depending on how full a version the family keeps. That water is then sprinkled over the house, the family and the vehicles, and what remains is used for the abhishekam or kept for the bath.
Families know it best as part of the karmas after a death, but it is not only that. It is the same pooja we perform before a new house is entered and before a wedding, and many families in Hyderabad have it done once a year for the house.
