Sapindi karma
Sapindi karma is performed on the twelfth or thirteenth day. It joins the preta with the pitrus of the line, which is what ends the period of ashaucham for the family. It is done together with the shanti poojas that cleanse the house, after which the household returns to its ordinary observances.
Until this karma is done the one who has gone is a preta, apart from the line. The sapindi joins that pindam with the pindas of the three generations before, and from that moment he is a pitru, offered to at every masikam, at the abdikam and at Mahalaya. It is the hinge of the whole sequence, and it is not one to be shortened.
The day is settled by your family custom and the panchangam; both the twelfth and the thirteenth are kept in Hyderabad. We come with the purohits and the full samagri, perform the sapindi and the shanti poojas together, and before we leave we give you the dates of the masikams and the abdikam in writing.
No prices are listed here. Each karyam is quoted on the phone, once we know the date, the place and the custom your family follows.
Questions about this karyam
Twelfth day or thirteenth?
Both are correct; it follows your family and its sutra. We confirm it with the panchangam when we come for the dasa dina karma.
Does the ashaucham end with this?
Yes. The sapindi and the shanti poojas together close it, and the family may resume its ordinary pooja in the house.
Can it be done if the karta is abroad?
It can, in his name and with the family present, and we will tell you plainly what he should do on the day wherever he is. Where he can come, it is better that he does.
