Chinna dinam
Chinna dinam is the karma of the third or fifth day, when the family returns to the ghat for the asthi sanchayanam, the gathering of the asthi, and makes the first offerings for the preta. We tell you the correct day on the day of the dahana samskaram, and come with the purohit and the full samagri.
The day is fixed by the family custom and by the panchangam; for most families in Hyderabad it falls on the third day, for some on the fifth. On that morning we return with you to the ghat. The chita is cooled with milk and water, and the asthi are gathered into a kalasam, and the first pindam is offered. What is gathered is kept for immersion, at Rameswaram, Kashi or Sangam, or nearer at the Godavari or the Krishna.
This is a short karma but not a small one, and it is the first the family performs after the shock of the first day. The purohit stays with the karta through it and explains each part as it comes.

Both are kept. It follows your family custom, and we confirm the day with the panchangam when we come for the dahana samskaram.
Who should go to the ghat?
The karta and the close family. It is a smaller gathering than the tenth day, and there is no need to call the wider family for it.
What happens to the asthi afterwards?
They are kept in a kalasam until they are immersed in a river or at a teertham. Families go to Rameswaram, Kashi or the Sangam; the Godavari and the Krishna serve as well, and are nearer.
