Smashana katta
The smashana katta is the platform at the cremation ground on which the samskaram is performed. We book it at the ground nearest your home, or wherever your family goes, and settle the register, the receipt and and the wood or the electric chamber, before the family reaches the ghat.
To reach the ghat and find the katta unbooked is what families dread most, and it is entirely avoidable. We book ahead, so the katta is ready and the register is signed. We know the grounds across Hyderabad and Secunderabad — Amberpet, Bansilalpet, Punjagutta, Malakpet, Chanchalguda, Erragadda and the rest — and which of them are quick at which hours.
The ground issues a slip when the samskaram is done. Keep it: you will need it with the doctor’s certificate to get the death certificate from the GHMC, and we will tell you which office to go to.
No prices are listed here. Each karyam is quoted on the phone, once we know the date, the place and the custom your family follows.
Questions about this karyam
Which ground will it be?
The one nearest your home, unless your family goes to a particular ghat. Tell us which and we will book there.
Wood or electric?
Whichever your family keeps. Both are available at most of the larger grounds in Hyderabad, and we book the one you name.
Is the slip from the ground important?
Yes. Keep it. It is needed along with the doctor’s certificate for the GHMC death certificate, within twenty-one days.
How long does the family wait at the ghat?
With the katta booked, about two hours from arrival to the end of the samskaram. Without a booking it can be four or more at a busy ground, standing in the open. That is the whole reason we book ahead, and why we ask which ghat you use at the very first call.
