Navagraha japam
Navagraha japam is the recitation of the mantra of each of the nine grahas, with the homam and the danam that complete it. It is kept during a dasa or an antardasa that is giving trouble, before a wedding, and at the shashtipoorthi. We read the jatakam first and tell you which graha the japam should be for.
The number of repetitions differs by graha, and by whether the family keeps the full count or the shortened one. We say at the start which we propose and why, so that neither the hours nor what it comes to is a surprise afterwards.
Where a jatakam has been read and a particular graha named, bring us what you were told. Often the answer is a japam for that one graha with its danam, not all nine, and the shorter answer is the right one. We would rather do that than a larger homam that is not what the chart asked for.
No prices are listed here. Each karyam is quoted on the phone, once we know the date, the place and the custom your family follows.
Questions about this karyam
Do we need to do all nine?
Usually not. Where a chart names one graha, the japam for that graha with its danam is what is wanted. We will tell you which after reading it.
How long does it take?
Two to three hours for a single graha with the homam. The full navagraha with the complete count runs most of a day.
What danam goes with it?
Each graha has its own — the grain, the cloth, the metal and the stone. We bring the items and tell you to whom they should be given.
Can it be done alongside a temple parihara?
Yes, and often it should be. Where a chart calls for a Sani parihara at a particular kshetram, we perform the japam and the homam at home and tell you plainly what remains to be done at the kshetram itself. We do not pretend a home japam replaces a visit the chart actually asks for.
