Ganapati homam
Ganapati homam is performed before a new undertaking and at the beginning of every other karyam, so that what follows meets no obstacle. It runs about an hour and a half, uses the modakam and the durva as the chief offerings, and can be performed in a flat with a compact homa kundam.
Nothing else begins before this one. Families keep it for a new business, a new vehicle, an examination, a wedding fixed, or as a standing pooja on Sankashti and Ganesh Chaturthi. It is also the opening act of every larger homam we perform.
For the homam itself we bring the kundam, the samidhalu, the ghee and the havis. The offerings are the modakams, the durva grass and the twenty-one items where the family keeps the fuller form. Where it is done in a flat, we use the smaller kundam and keep the smoke in hand — apartment homams are routine for us across Hyderabad.
No prices are listed here. Each karyam is quoted on the phone, once we know the date, the place and the custom your family follows.
Questions about this karyam
Can it be done in a flat?
Yes. We bring a compact kundam and manage the smoke. We do these across Hyderabad every week.
How long does it take?
An hour and a half for the usual form. With the Ganapati Atharvashirsha and the fuller offerings, about two.
Which day is best?
Chaturthi, and Sankashti especially. For a new undertaking, the day the panchangam gives for that undertaking is the one to keep.
Will the smoke set off the fire alarm?
It has not yet, and we do these in apartments across Hyderabad every week. We use the compact kundam, keep the samidhalu dry so they burn clean, and sit near an open window or the balcony. If your building has a strict rule, tell us and we will perform it on the balcony or without the homam.
