Gruhapravesham
Gruhapravesham is the karyam by which a family enters a new house. We fix the muhurtham from the panchangam, perform the Ganapati pooja, the punyahavachanam and the Vastu homam, set the milk to rise at the muhurtham, and take the family in with the kalasam. Everything from the kalasam to the mangala vayudyam is arranged by us, for an owned house or a rented flat alike.
The muhurtham is the part that matters most and the part families leave latest. Give us your possession date and a few dates that suit the family, and we read the panchangam against the karta’s nakshatram and give you the times. Uttarayanam and the months families avoid are taken into account, and we will tell you plainly when a date you want is not a good one.
On the day the pooja begins outside the threshold with Ganapati and the punyahavachanam, the Vastu purusha is worshipped, the homam is performed, and at the muhurtham the milk is set to rise and flow over in the new kitchen, which is abundance entering the house, and the family follows it in with the kalasam. The Satyanarayana vratam follows in the same sitting for most families.
Rented flats are no different. We perform the same karyam, without the homam where the building does not allow it, and the family enters properly.

Questions about this karyam
How far ahead should we book?
Two to three weeks is comfortable, and more in the wedding season. If the possession date is fixed, call us as soon as you have it and we will hold the muhurtham.
Can it be done for a rented flat?
Yes, and it often is. The karyam is the same; where the building will not allow the homam, we perform it without.
Should the Satyanarayana vratam be done the same day?
Most families keep both together, and it makes for one complete morning. It can also be kept for a later pournami if you prefer.
What must be ready in the house?
Water and power, the kitchen usable enough for the ksheera pongali, and the house cleaned. We bring everything else, including the kalasam and the pooja items.
