Satyanarayana vratam
Satyanarayana vratam is the household vratam of thanksgiving, kept on a pournami, at a new beginning, or after a wish has been granted. Our purohit comes to your home in Hyderabad with the full samagri, performs the vratam with the five-chapter katha in Telugu or Hindi, and takes the family through to the prasadam. Both the Telugu vidhanam and the North Indian Satyanarayan Katha are performed.
This is the vratam kept most often in Telugu homes, and with reason: it is complete in itself, it runs about two hours, and the whole family has a part in it. The couple sits, the kalasam is established, Ganapati and the navagrahas are worshipped first, and Satyanarayana Swamy is invoked with the shodashopachara. Then comes the katha, five chapters the family listens to, and it closes with the harati and the prasadam of sooji, ghee, banana and sugar.
Pournami evenings are the classic time, and Karthika masam above all. Families also keep it at a gruhapravesham, after a wedding, on a birthday, or when a prarthana has been answered. We fix the muhurtham with you and bring everything: the kalasam, the pratima or the photo if you have none, the flowers, the fruit, the panchamrutam items and the prasadam ingredients.
For North Indian families the Satyanarayan Katha is performed in the Hindi vidhi, with the katha in Hindi and the panjiri prasad, by a pandit who conducts it regularly.

Questions about this karyam
How long does it take?
About two hours with the katha. With a larger gathering and a longer harati, two and a half.
What should we keep ready at home?
A clean place for the pooja, a few chairs or mats for those who come, and the vessels if you would rather cook the prasadam yourselves. Everything else comes with us.
Can it be kept on a day other than pournami?
Yes. Pournami is best, but any shubha dinam fixed by the panchangam serves, particularly for a gruhapravesham or a birthday.
Do you perform the North Indian Satyanarayan Katha?
Yes. A Hindi-speaking pandit performs it in the North Indian vidhi with the katha in Hindi. Tell us when you book.
