Abhishekam
Abhishekam is the bathing of the murti with water, milk, curd, honey, ghee and the rest, while the mantras of that devata are recited. We perform it at your home or at your temple in Hyderabad, most often as Rudrabhishekam for Siva, and bring the panchamrutam, the bilva or tulasi, and everything else it needs.
The abhishekam most asked for is the Rudrabhishekam, with the Rudram and the Chamakam recited over the lingam through the pouring. Families also keep Ksheerabhishekam on a Monday, the abhishekam for Venkateswara Swamy, and the abhishekam of the family devata at the annual festival.
It is done in the morning before the meal, in front of your own pooja room murti or at the temple. Where a family has no lingam at home, we bring one. The panchamrutam is prepared fresh, and what is offered is given back to the family as prasadam.
No prices are listed here. Each karyam is quoted on the phone, once we know the date, the place and the custom your family follows.
Questions about this karyam
How long does an abhishekam take?
About an hour and a quarter for the usual Rudrabhishekam. The Ekadasa Rudram, where the family keeps it, runs to three hours or more with eleven purohits.
Can it be done at home?
Yes, and most are. If you have no lingam or murti, we bring one and take it back afterwards.
Which day is best?
Monday and pradosham for Siva, Saturday for Venkateswara Swamy, and the devata’s own day otherwise. Tell us the devata and we will name the day.
What is done with the panchamrutam afterwards?
It is given back to the family as prasadam, and that is the point of it: what was offered returns to the house. We prepare it fresh on the morning, from milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar, with the fruit your family adds. Nothing is brought ready-made from a shop.
