Ganapati navaratri
Ganapati Navaratri begins with the pratishtha on Vinayaka Chavithi and runs to the nimajjanam. We perform the sthapana with the twenty-one patri, the daily pooja through the nine days, and the udvasana before the nimajjanam, for a house or a community pandal.
Hyderabad keeps this festival street by street, and what a pandal needs from us is the sthapana done properly on the first morning, someone to attend the daily pooja, and the udvasana before the murti is taken for nimajjanam. We take on all three, and for the larger pandals we send the same purohit each day so the family or the committee is not explaining itself afresh every morning.
For a house, the sthapana and the twenty-one patri pooja on Chavithi are the whole of it for many families, with the udvasana on the day they choose — the third, the fifth, the seventh or the ninth. We do whichever your household keeps.

Must the murti stay all nine days?
No. Households keep it three, five, seven or nine days as their custom has it. The udvasana is performed on whichever day you take it for nimajjanam.
Do you bring the twenty-one patri?
Yes, the patri, the flowers and the whole samagri. You need only the place and the murti.
Can you attend a community pandal daily?
Yes. Book early — Chavithi is one of the days that fills first in Hyderabad.
Can the same murti be kept next year?
No. The murti receives the udvasana and goes for nimajjanam, and a new one is established the following Chavithi. That is the whole shape of the festival: he is invited, kept as a guest, and seen off. Where a family keeps a permanent metal or stone Ganapati in the pooja room, that one stays and is worshipped alongside; it is not the utsava murti.
