Vivaham
Vivaham is the samskara by which two families are joined. We perform it in your own sutra and community vidhanam — the nischitartham, the snathakam and kashi yatra, the kanyadanam, the mangalya dharana, the saptapadi and the sthalipakam — with the muhurtham read against both jatakams and every item of samagri arranged.
A wedding is the longest karyam we perform and the one where custom differs most from family to family. Vaidiki and Niyogi, Telugu and Kannada, each community keeps its own order and its own small usages, and a purohit who does not know yours will smooth them away without meaning to. So we ask, at the first meeting, which sutra you follow and what your elders kept, and we perform it that way.
The muhurtham comes first. Bring both jatakams and the dates the families can manage, and we read the porutham and give you the lagnams with their times. From there we take on the samagri, the homa kundam, the mangala vayudyam, and the purohits for however many days the vivaham runs.
Where one side of the family is North Indian, a Hindi-speaking pandit joins so that both traditions are honoured rather than one being made to give way.
No prices are listed here. Each karyam is quoted on the phone, once we know the date, the place and the custom your family follows.
Questions about this karyam
How far ahead should we book?
Once the muhurtham is fixed, and that is often months ahead. In the wedding season the good lagnams go early; call us as soon as the families have agreed.
Do you follow our sutra?
Yes. Tell us the sutra and the community at the first meeting, along with anything particular your elders kept, and the vivaham is performed that way.
Can it be done where the two families follow different customs?
It is done all the time. We agree beforehand which usages are kept from each side, so nothing is decided in front of the guests.
Do you arrange the mangala vayudyam and the samagri?
Yes, both, along with the kundam and the purohits for each day of the vivaham.
