Sundarkand path
Sundarkand Path is the recitation of the fifth kand of the Ramcharitmanas, offered with the Hanuman puja and, where the family keeps it, a havan. It is recited in Hindi by a pandit at your home, most often on a Tuesday or a Saturday, and takes about three hours.
North Indian families in Hyderabad keep this for obstacles, for a household under strain, and as a standing observance for Hanuman ji. It is a path rather than a puja proper: the pandit recites, the family listens, and there is a part for everyone in the chaupais that are sung together. Where a family keeps the havan with it, that follows the path and adds about forty minutes.
Some families keep it monthly. Where a house keeps it regularly we send the same pandit, so that the recitation does not change hands and the household settles into it. The prasad and the samagri come with us.

Questions about this karyam
How long does it take?
About three hours for the path, and a little more where the havan is kept with it.
Which day is best?
Tuesday and Saturday, and the purnima. Where a family keeps it monthly we fix a standing day.
Is it recited in Hindi?
Yes, in Hindi, by a pandit who does it regularly. The explanation is in Hindi too.
Should the family fast that day?
Some households keep a fast until the path is finished and then take the prasad; others do not. It is not required. What we would ask is that the family sits through the recitation rather than moving in and out, because the path is meant to be heard, and an hour of quiet in the house is most of its benefit.
